Shared Custody vs. Joint Custody
February 19, 2008
If both parents agree on shared custody, the next question should be: “How does this arrangement benefit our child?”
Kids-Plus! benefits the child by asking these questions of both parents.
If he is very young, making an agreement to move him from one parent’s home to the other several times each week is too disruptive.
If your child moves from one house to the other without a enough time to adjust and find a consistent rhythms, he may begin to feel unsafe and emotionally unstable.
It is important to establish consistent routines in each home because children need structure.
Longer periods of time spent with each parent may be preferable so one week on and one week off may be a better arrangement.
What works for your family?

Dear mrs. Wood,
Ofcourse children also need basic structure and reasonable time to adjust, but unlike often the adult parents involved in shared parenting arrangements children also still are very flexible. And happily enough they are. How else could we bring them to childcare at an early age and to school and clubs later on. Children change scenery all the time without being troubled by it. What however they do feel of most importance to themselves is to have both their parents actively involved in their lives. When they do, they flourish much better on all aspects of their lives and develpment, then when they don’t. That is why any reasonable arrangement for joint care is so important to their well-being. And it is more often then not that it is the adults involved that have troubles to adjust to that.
Wishing you all the success needed with your blog after your promising start,
Regards,
